How
Do Things Work at the Casa?
Many people
ask about certain aspects of our care, such as, "How do you feed
so many dogs?" or, "How does bed time work?"
Fortunately,
dogs are creatures of habit. They enjoy and count on a daily routine.
Most of the dogs that stay at the Casa get into the routine within a
day. And, they take cues from the other, "veteran" dogs. They
learn when to expect meals, naps, potty breaks, play time, and bed time.
And, with strong pack leadership from Anastasia & John, they can
relax and enjoy their surroundings, activities, and their canine companions.
Feeding
Time
Meal times
are twice a day. Breakfast is around 7:30 a.m., and dinner is about
4:30 p.m. Also, everyone has a snack before nap time, which starts around
noon. Dogs that eat three meals a day will receive their lunch at snack
time.
All the
dogs are fed separately, except for dogs from the same family that are
accustomed to eating peacefully together. Feeding areas include the
bedrooms, exercise pens set up in the kitchen area, crates, and "al
fresco" (outdoors on the patio) if the weather is nice! If a dog
is being crated for bed time, they will usually eat their meal in their
crate. Meals are first prepared and poured in the work room. The dogs
are then separated into their individual feeding areas, and the meals
are brought out to each dog.
All dogs
are given a potty break after meal times and are not allowed to run
and play for at least an hour (to prevent vomiting or bloat/torsion).

Nap Time & Bed Time
After
playing all morning or all afternoon, the dogs are ready for their naps
and bedtime!
Cozy doggie
beds are placed on the floor with fresh baby blankies. The dogs pick
a nest and lay down to rest or sleep! Crated dogs are given comfy blankets
and a water dish.
